Doesn’t time fly?
One year on from implementation, April 2017 sees a further 4% increase in National Living Wage from £7.20 to £7.50 an hour.
This rise, and the plan for it to reach £9.00 by 2020, poses an ongoing challenge for employers of shift workers…many of whom are already grappling with productivity challenges, inflationary pressures and uncertainty around Brexit.
For many, modernising and maintaining optimised shift patterns could help offset these labour cost increases and provide protection against costly legislation breaches.
If you are considering updating your approach, we are holding a Workforce Planning Masterclass on May 9th (Manchester) and 11th (Reading).
The day will help you understand how:
- Effective shift pattern design ensures contracted hours, which had previously been paid unnecessarily in quieter periods, can be re-deployed to support periods of high demand. Eliminating the need for expensive overtime and agency workers would make meeting your National Living Wage obligations easier.
- Roster management systems can be used to unify data from across HR and ERP systems to quickly and accurately calculate employee’s hours worked and ensure compliance. Visibility and certainty over working time is key to avoiding the damaging fines and reputational issues associated with non-payment of National Living Wage.
The Workforce Planning Masterclass will include an overview of core principals, interactive practical exercises and engaging sessions delivered by industry leaders who recently changed their resourcing models.
It’s the perfect event for anyone interested in changing their Working Time arrangements.
